One of the most talented, and indeed collectible, bands from the late 1960’s is undoubtedly The Hippy Boys. Recording either under their own name or as an anonymous backing combo, they laid down some of the most satisfying and danceable reggae rhythms that Kingston could offer.
With a name-shift they became Lee Perry’s Upsetters, and pushed reggae (and Trojan Records) way up into the UK National ratings, courtesy of the rocking ‘Return of Django’ resplendent with Val Bennett’s raucous horn playing.
They became a skinheads delight and collectors dream, with never a duff track appearing in the racks under their name.
Customary to Jamaica, their history is somewhat hazy, but a suggested arrival on the scene in 1967 seems likely. But this wasn’t The Hippy Boys as known to the ’69 reggae lovers but an earlier incarnation of the backing group.

This 1974 release by Keith Hudson is something of a lost gem - with his gravelly vocal style gaining more and more prominence in recent years. Housed in some sunshine cover art, 'Entering The Dragon' with the man Keith bringing an abrasive edge to the proceedings that probably sounded quite startling in its day, now acts as a sign-post to the dancehall/hip-hop evolutions that were to come.
With particular highlights including 'Will You Come Out Tonight',
'It Was When Friends Started to Talk About You' and 'Rage Of Love',
Keith Hudson's Entering The Dragon LP, a classic is available once again for everyone to enjoy.

This album was fashioned by Island Record engineers John Burns and Dick Cuthell in their Hammersmith studio. The backing musicians, who producer Lawrence Lindo named The Black Disciples, were assembled from members of The Wailers and The Soul Syndicate.
It has been suggested that "dub" could derive from "duppie," a Jamaican patois word for ghost, as Lee Perry has been quoted stating that dub is "the ghost in me coming out," this connection further illustrated by Burning Spear naming this album as the ghost of Garvey.
